    From Rey of SynchroniCity:

Here is some contribution, hope my input helps.
I have studied this for about 30 years.

I am very familiar with the scarab case.

To date, the categories of synchronicity that
    are in my file include:

    acoustical knots
ad aperturam libri (where the book has opened)
ad aperturam media (where the electronic media
              has been "turned on")
    de ja vu
    due (Duex ex mechanica)
    duplication of cases
gleichartigeit (equivalence of external and internal
                      processi)
    ironies
    license plates
    nominalistic ironies
    numbers
    pnuema (geist, divine wind)
    serenedippity

    and more....

It is my opinion that there is an "upper case" Invisible that utilizes a NOUS (Intellect){Plotinus, de Chardin)
    to probe and judge
    our mental (personal 'inivisible')
and physical whereabouts with an uncanny
attention to detail.  The strategies are to use signs
and symbols and the rules of the game involve the
closest analogies in order "to get points across."

This operation is stealth for the most part, but
Jung and others had noted that many people have
difficulty coping with them and are very aware so
in effect that leads those who are paying attention
to notice them a great deal, which in turn can
"play havoc with our conscious state" and daily
    routines (Koestler, Progoff, Jung).

The history of this idea precedes Jung's coining of
the term "synchronicity". Jung himself credited forerunners. Some other terms used have been:  Psycho-physical
    parrallism, monism-dualism, monism-pluralism,
simultudes, simulitudes, Providence, fate vs. free will,
determinism, pre determinism and of course "coincidence" among some others.

This century scientists became a dominant mind set.
This irritated Jung.  His idea to revise the way
we look at this phenomenon involved his keeping
arms distance away from predecessors discussions
of the philosphic nature.  Irritated, he decided to
take on an "empirical" approach and coined the
term "synchronicity" at a Eulogy for Richard Wilhelm
who translated Chinese texts (Secret of the Golden
    Flower, I Ching,...).

Unfortunately, the term in the 60's was shelved into
the occult sections at the libraries, adding to
the problems of people who were hiding their experiences
for fear of ridicule, etc.  Not only that the
phenomenon itself could embarrass many because it
was revealing secrets about us that we dared not
    make public.

In any case, Koestler saw the problem and spoke
with a "forked tongue".  He was able to undermine
the western scientific thinking (young minds in
the scientific communities who were normally commanded
by such positivists like Asimov,..).  On one
side of Koestlers mouth he would ask the interested
readers to dismiss Jung's synchronicity and on the
other side of his mouth that we should not dismiss it.
(Order from Disorder, Roots of Coincidence, Act of
Creation, Janus a Summing Up, etc.)

This helped elevate the topic into more "refined circles".

The late Dr. Ira Progoff in the late 60's also saw this
problem and went to interview Jung on a fellowship from
Bolligen.  The effort is reported in" "Jung, Synchronicity and Human Destiny."  Very good reading and short book.

Now, getting back to the case at hand.  The idea
that the electronic media is in "synch" with our
internal mental activities is something that I have
a great deal of interest.  Piere de Chardin, Jesuit,
who was banished from the "Church" and returned
had wrote about a "noosphere" (a 'thinking' sphere)
that envelopes our earth, then the galaxies, and so
on).  His noosphere is similar to Jungs CU.  (Progoff)

In any case, de Chardin is an optimist and points
to the "insideous growth of the electronic media."
    It is a homogenization.

Now take this a bit further....
Imagine that we are in an electromagnetic pool.
